The following materialswill be used to contain and absorb spilled material and to neutralize
the product.
Aluminum Sulfate -ENACT 7783 NALCO Product (Use for Emulsion Oil Spills in
underground workings.
Zymeflow Enzyme Based Grease Predigester -United Laboratories Product 655 (Use for
Emulsion Oil Spill recovery, surface or underground.
BOYCO OIL Absorbent
Straw
Rags
Powdered Limestone (Calcium Cazbonate)
All such materials, afrer use, will be promptly discazded in an approved manner as stated in
the product MSDS sheet. The materials listed above are stored at the mine site at all times
and can be replenished within 24 hours if supplies are depleted. Adequate supplies of the
material will be stockpiled to handle most leak or spill situations.
The following plan should be followed in case of a significant leak or spill of underground
emulsion oil from the longwall hydraulic system. Contaminated water should be contained
in the underground sump. ECO Recovery Systems Inc. will be contacted to mobilize the
necessary equipment for removal of oil from sump water discharge. NALCO ENACT 7783
(Aluminum Sulfate) can be used to flocculate oil. The flocculated oil can be removed with
a combination of centrifuge extraction followed by filtration of centrifuge effluent at ] 0
microns. This can be done utilizing the ECO Recovery Systems Inc. leased equipment for
decontaminating the sump water. Using a chemical injection pump, inject ENACT
Aluminum Sulfate at 83 ppm into the treatment stream. This will effectively flocculate the
emulsion oil out of the contaminated water. Then use the ECO Recovery Systems Inc.
centrifugation and filtration trailers for final affluent (See Appendix C).
United Laboratories Product 655 "Zymeflow" will also be used as an emulsion oil digester
for small leaks and spills on site. This biodegradable enryme has been shown to break down
emulsion oil out of sump water and is non-toxic to aquatic life. This product has been
included in Deserado Mine's NPDES discharge permit for use on the mine site.
Oil and fuel spills containing oil residue and/or fuels in diked areas will not be allowed to
accumulate and will be promptly removed and disposed of.
6/22/98
