It is anticipated that these tanks will be relocated to the D Portal area during the summer of
1998.
See Map 86 for locations of storage tanks at the East Portal Area. All tanks are located on
concrete pads with concrete containment walls to isolate leaks or spills.
WATER TREATMENT PLANT BUILDING
The following chemicals are stored in or nearby the potable water treatment plant building:
CHLORINE LIQUID - A maximum of four 55-gallon barrels is stored at anytime. The
product is pumped from the barrels into the system on a rotation basis.
HYDROCHLORIC ACID - (35.2% in water solution) is stored outside the water treatment
plant building in a 2,000-gallon fiberglass above-ground tank with a concrete contaimnent
enclosure sufficient to hold the entire tank content. This product is listed in the Deserado
Mine's Tier Two Emergency and Hazazdous Chemical Inventory under SARA Title III and
the Community Right to Know Act of 1986 (See Appendix C).
FLOCLEAN -Approximately eight 5-gallon containers of reverse-osmosis membrane
washing chemical are stored in the water treatment plant building. It is stored in i[s original
container on the floor in the Southeast comer of the building.
SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT
The sewage treatment plant has an adjacent attached structure on the West side containing
a maximum of (2) 55 gallon drums of liquid chlorine chemical. It is used as the final
disinfectant of effluent.
COAL PREPARATION PLANT BUILDING
This building houses two steel tanks containing flocculent products; NALCO 8815 and
8856. These products are used for separation of fine coal in clean coal processing. They are
located on the bottom floor on concrete floors with concrete sumps to prevent drainage to
the outside of the building. A concrete sump catches all wash down materials within the
building and can pump the material to the Raw Coal thickener for additional containment if
a spill should occur.
PREPARATION PLANT OIL STORAGE BUILDINGS
These aze utilized for storage of oil and flammable liquids. One is located adjacent to the
prepazation plant building, the other near the sewage treatment plant building. Both have
concrete floors.
6/22/98
