~~ ~~
RECE1VEp
ar'~ 2 s 2002
799 B. Paseo Dorado Drive
Pueblo, Colorado 81007-1155
Apri122, 2002
Division of Minerals and Gealagy
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80202
~~
As a retired employee of the state of Colorado and resident of Pueblo County, I would
like to express my concern about the Mining and Reclamation Permit Application
submitted by the Rio Grande Portland Cement Company. This application does not
address the possible contamination of the St. Charles River and the two underground
aquifers below the area nor the use of a highly toxic explosive material used in the
mining process.
I request that a Public Hearing be held on this permit application IN Pueblo, during
evening hours when all concerned citizens may attend.
This application is very complex -requiring the consultation of experts with a chemical
and mining background to analyze the effects on the water downstream from this plant's
operation. The people of Pueblo County need to know that the approval of this permit
will not become the source of a serious health hazard in their future water supply.
Please keep me informed of actions taken or meetings held concerning this application.
Respectfully,
~i 6 Vii,.. -
Daniel D. Dove
