Permit (CO-0045675) RECEIVED
FROM: Kathleen ,Waters oor mat ,Water Quality Control Division DEC 11 ZOOQ
RE: Nonce of issuance of the permit for Ba a Mt. Gold (CO-0045675)
Division of Minerals and Geology
DATE: December 20, 2000
i wanted to let people who attended the public meetings on the above-referenced permit know that
the fmal permit has been issued, and where they can go to view or obtain a copy. The enclosed letter from
David Akers provides this information. For reference, I have also enclosed a copy of the permit rationale
which explains the changes that were made to the draft permit.
At the September 6'" meeting on the permit I was told that 1 didn't need complete addresses to
notify people in San Luis about the permit, that the person's name and the Town would be sufficient to get
the notice delivered by the U.S. Postal Service, [ am following up on that suggestion, as I have names, but
no addresses for many of the people who attended the public meetings in San Luis in June and September.
If you have any questions or comments about the permit, you are advised in the letter to contact
Mazla Biberstir7e here at the Water Quality Control Division. Her phone number and email address are
provided.
The Division would consider holding an informal meeting in San Luis to review the permit
conditions and to explain how it will be administered if there is significant interest in the community. I will
monitor this in the ensuing weeks to determine the breadth of interest for a meeting. I must emphasize that
the nature of such a meeting would be public education and outreach on the conditions of the pemut.
You will note that the pertnit has been modified to reflect the input received Gom the public and
from the U.S. EPA. We sincerely believe that the permit, as issued, will adequately protect the quality of
the water in the Rito Seco. We welcome your interest and encourage you to remain involved in monitoring
the situation.
Enclosure
Cc: David Akers
Marla Biberstine
Annette Quill
