This Ietter summarizes our findings, and our <br />inspection report is enclosed. <br />The Bowie No. 2 Mine is an underground coalmine using the longwall extraction method. A total of <br />200 people work at the facility in three shifts. Coal is transferred from the mine portal downhill to <br />the truck loadout via a conveyor system. A train loadout is currently under construction. Wastewater <br />is generated from stormwater control, mine water dischazge, and domestic uses. <br />Wastewater dischazges from this facility are regulated under CDPS Permit #CO-0044776, The <br />current version of this permit is Amendment #3 dated March 4, 2002, and effective May 1, 2002. <br />There are seven permitted outfalls at Bowie No. 2 Mine. <br />• Outfa11001 is also known as Pond B. It is a settling pond for surface runoff, and the effluent <br />from Outfa11004. Outfa11001 has not had a surface discharge during the past 2 years. It is <br />located at 38° 55.20 north, 107° 32.54 west. <br />• Outfal] 002 is also known as Pond C. It is a settling pond for surface runoff. This outfall has <br />discharged once in the past 2 years. Flow measurement at that time was by bucket and <br />stopwatch. Outfa11002 is located at 38° 55.44 north, 107° 32.24 west. <br />• Outfall 003 is also known as Pond D. It is a settling pond for surface runoff This outfall has <br />not had a surface dischazge during the past 2 yeazs. It is located at 38° 55.44 north, 107° <br />32.19 west. <br />• Outfa11004 is the facility wastewater treatment plant. It dischazges on a regulaz basis.
