Section 776.11 (b) Continued.
•
Most exploration drilling will be conducted immediately ahead of the surface
mining activities described elsewhere in this application. Where the drill site will be
mined through shortly after the conclusion of drilling, reclamation will be
accomplished, not as described in this Section, but rather in'accordance with the
reclamation plan described in Section 780.18.
Because air is the anticipated drilling medium, contamination of water-producing
areas, such as streams, springs, stockponds and ground water aquifers, will be
negligible. Further, since there is only one aquifer, the Sudduth Coal Seam, no
muting of ground water will occur. In the event air proves to be an insufficient
drilling medium, anon-toxic biodegradable foam will be used. It is anticipated that
mud will not be used as a drilling medium Water, if tiled in the drilling operation,
will be recirculated to eliminate contamination to water-producing areas.
• If necessary, access roads and drill sites will be sprinkled with water to prevent
dusty conditions. No blasting will be conducted, nor is any gas or water pressure
expected to be encountered in the drilling program No blow-out control devices
will be necessary because there are no known valuable or even potentially valuable
oil, gas, or geothermal resources at the shallow depths to be drilled in the planned
drilling area. Drill sites will be conditioned at all times to prevent injury to persons,
livestock and wildlife. If mud piu are necessary and are used, they will be fenced to
prevent entry by livestock or wildlife. All drilling and exploration personnel will
wear hard hau and steel-toe shoes or boon; they will adhere to all applicable
Federal, State and Kerr Coal Safety and Health Regulations.
Excessive cuttings will be spread evenly over the surrounding surface prior to
retopsoiling. Holes that are needed for ground water monitoring or pump testing
will be ]eft open and completed with piezometers. In addition, boreholes may be
retained and reclamation deferred for a finite period if the potential exisu to obtain
• valuable information from the boreholes in support of possible future
development.
776-4
Permit Renewa104 Revised -June 2001
