C~
-122-
called him up and I told him about the complaints of Mrs. Jaquez, Mr. Charlie
Jaquez' mother. Ne came and viewed the -- that it was a good thing to make a
good bridge there. And I think we can get even from the state funds, we can
get a bridge built there, before the other things happen. Nevertheless, you
know, I -- I do appreciate this Board for bring this -- program iup, and I
appreciate their -- their -- their version in acquiring a good health and
honest deal with -- with Battle Mountain. I agree with them, so far. .I was
talking to Charlie Jaquez, which was one of leaders, and Mr. Joe Gallegos and
they seem to think that -- they're not against the mine operation. But they
are against the way -- where they're going to have the pad -- what do you call
that -- leach pad. They think if its moved to the north side of the -- of the
creek there, they wouldn't have no complaint about them working on the mine.
And that's probably the only objection that they do have. And maybe something
could be worked out with these people, maybe something like that can be worked
on, maybe there'll be no -- no complaints on these people, complaining about
that.
One thing that I could say that -- the wages and these people are gonna be
competitive. And I'm speaking for the working people. You know, we've been
smeared all over the papers this last couple of weeks, and this is just a lack
of jobs to our people in San Luis and in Costilla County. You kmow, we're the
highest rate unemployed people in -- in Colorado, and might be the highest in
the state of -- in the United States. Who knows? But, nevertheless, we need
jobs for the people. I think if -- these guys woulda come in four years ago,
this thing wouldn't never happened. The boys woulda been working wish them,
they promised that they'll use our people to work, and that's something that
we want -- to have our people employed. So, with reference to the way they're
going to process the ore, I think they are smart enough to know that -- what's
safe for us. And, let me tell you, I -- I am concerned too, because I'm from
San Luis, I've lived there, ~ family has lived there, and I -- hopefully my -
the rest of my family will live there in San Luis. Naturally, we want a good,
safe system to be run there is San Luis. And -- but I do highly recommend,
• with the record this -- that I have -- acquired from these Battle Mountain
