C~
-88-
the west pit reclamation which will include a significant amount. of flat areas
that will be seeded with an appropriate species for wildlife habitat, the post
mining land use in this area.
Battle Mountain has not adequately addressed replacement of topsoils and
subsoils to reclaim the disturbed areas. I believe we've discussed this issue
earlier as well. Reclamation calls for 18 inches of growth medium material
which was the recommendation of Camille Farrell, the vegetation specialist
with the Mined Land Reclamation Staff.
Battle Mountain must monitor the heap leach area to insure the
surrounding soils are not contaminated by cyanide spray. We do not believe
that there will be a problem with this, due to the fact that there will be a
significant buffer area between the edge of the heap leach and the edge of the
liner material. And, in addition, there will be -- the edge of the heap leach
liner will key into the edge of the liner for the ditch carrying pipe line
solutions which creates a significant buffer zone for ar1Y spray that could
• occur.
MS. WINTER: About how wide is it7
MR. BARRY: Excuse me, Margie. She just didn't hear you.
MR. DODSON: Anne, we don't use sprinklers, as well.
MS. BALDRIGE: Oh, I'm sorry, that's a very good point. Sprinklers --
also the plan in Exhibit D does not call for use of sprinklers, iit calls for
emitters which are like drip irrigation, basically.
MS. WINTER: Okay.
MR. BARRY: So, there's -- do I take from that there is no F~roblem of
operating even in a high wind?
