r

P'~ABODY
,IIIIESTERN,
III IIIIII'llllll'll
999
Peabody Western Coai Company
September 29, 1993 ,
Ms. Susan Burgmaier ~`~ ~ ~ ~ ~99,~
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: S-G Terminal, Inc. Pond Inspections
Dear Ms. Burgmaier:
During the second quarter of 1993, I made two visual inspections
of the H-G loadout for internal compliance purposes. if problem
areas are noticed, this information is expressed verbally or in
writing to the Seneca Mine Engineering Manager in order for
corrections to be implemented.
As a course of those inspections, observations were made at the
Truck Loop Pond and the Rail Loop Pond. It should be noted that
the design history of the ponds is noted on Page 12-1 of the H-G
loadout application. HG Terminal, Inc. does not imply in its
inspections that the ponds were constructed properly. These
ponds were in existence prior to HGTI acquiring the property.
Therefore, compliance with Section 4.05.6(13) Inspections is
limited to visual inspection for structural weakness, erosion,
or other hazardous conditions.
The annual inspection report will include sediment levels and
any proposed or required maintenance of the structure.
Future quarterly inspections will be noted on standardized forms
and submitted to the Division within two weeks after the end of
the quarter.
The following information is based on field notes, written
compliance lists, photographs, or combinations of the above.
Date: April 13, 1993
Weather: Cool, overcast
On this date, I personally inspected the H-G loadout.
Photographs were taken. Both ponds contained water and appeared
to be in stable condition. This inspection complies with the
requirements of Section 4.06.6(13).
Peabody Wesfem Coal Company • 1J00 South Yale Sheaf • FhagsfaH, Ari:ona 86001 • Tabphone (602) 774-3433 • Fas (604) 773.4396
