BOREHOLE INFORMATION UPDATE SUMMARY
January 29, 2002
Updated Tables ]and 2 (attached) summarize inventory information for boreholes/wells both
within and in immediate proximity to the Kerr Mine Permit and Exploration License Areas.
These tables include the following information, consistent with CDMG Stipularion 22:
• Well number and location
• Borehole log, hole diameter and hole depth
• Depth to water and sediment level measurements
• Well completion information including depth, casing type, diameter, gravel pack and
grout intervals
• Current surface condition of the well and surroundings
• Preliminary plans for abandonment or possible Eumre uses
• General well-access infomtanon (directions)
It should be noted that not all of the information listed above has been found for all of the
wells. The mine files located at the M\\/I ]Steamboat Springs Office and in the Kerr azchives
have been reviewed for the requested information but the files are not complete. A good
example of missing infomtation is borehole diameters. No notations of the borehole diameter
have been identified on any of the logs or other written information to the best of our
knowledge. Many of the borehole logs for holes drilled within the permit azea have been found
and copies are attached.
The Borehole Reclamation Plan submitted on January 3, 2000 included four main components:
l) Field reconnaissance and wells inventory; 2) Determination of potential for beneficial use; 3)
BLM review of benefiual use plan; and 4) Well plugging and reclamation. In September 2000,
correspondence to the BLM included an update of the findings of the borehole reconnaissance
and other related information. A .vell inventory table and drawing (BLM-1) presented listings
and locations of all of the possible existing wells associated with the Matr Mine, including those
within the permit area, the exploration license and elsewhere on proximate private and on public
lands. The information included 37 bedrock and 33 alluvial borehole/wells that were identified
as Kerr, USGS, or other (ownership unknown) boreholes/wells. An additional file seazch (Kerr
azchives) was conducted in an effort to gain additional information on the wells with unknown
ownership or at least to resolve discrepancies in the current well inventory. The attached tables
and drawing provide updated information on the Man Mine well inventory. For the benefit of
future reporting concerning abandonment, the well inventory has been divided onto two
individual tables as listed below.
• Table 1 - \~Vells located within Coal Exploration License C-28056
• Table 2 - \X~ells located outside the Coal Exploration License
Updated information has resulted in an increase in the total number of wells. The total number
of wells in the azea is now estimated to be 72. This includes 23 wells within the Coal
Exploration License, 39 within the Mine Permit and 10 wells located outside both of these
boundaries. There aze approximately 47 boreholes/wells for which Kert is responsible
(including new monitoring well SP-Ol), 17 USGS boreholes/wells, and 8 boreholes/wells where
