November 13, 1978 The following inFarmation pertaining to wildlife is pravidrd for use by the Land Reclamation Ooard in their consideration of a mining permit for Pioneer Uravan. Inc. Ellison Mine The Colorado Division of Wildlife does hereby find, to the best oP our knowledge, that the impact of the proposed mining operation on wildlife will 6e minor x moderate ma3or Mina Location: NW;, NWT Sec 32 T 44N RIBW, NC !, NE., Sec 31 T44N RIBW SW,; SW~, Sec 29 T44N RIBW, SEo SE,', S,~c 30 T44N R18W Wildlife Species List: (may be attached) Deer, coyote, bobcat, raptors, cotton- tail rabbits, ground squirrels, reptiles and many forms of small mammals and birds inhabit [his area. Endangered Species Impacted: None that are known. Assessment of Impact on Wildlife: The construction of numerous exploration and service roads, resulting losses of wildlife habitat, and human activity associated with [he mining activities will have adverse impacts on wildlife. Wintertime activity will have an impact on the value of the area as big game winter rar~ge. Mina Reclamation Recommendations: (may be attached) Exploration and service roads should be closed and re vegetated with natural vegetation. Water resources available in the area should be developed for wildlife and livestock, where feasible. Extreme caution should be taken to prevent fuel oils and tailings from getting Into the drainages which feed the nearby Dolores River. Division District Wildlife Managers should be consulted during closure and reclamation of exploration roads so that road closures will be done to enhance wildlife habitat.
