surface water and ground water monitoring requirements prior to
March 15, 1981.
Surface water information that currently exists within the area
which GEC Minerals plans to mine is shown on the Hydrology Maps
Nos. 8 and 9, and the Regional Hydrology Map No. 7.
GEC Minerals, Inc. plans to utilize the information which J. F.
Sato Associates provides during its detailed investigation of both
the surface and ground water regimes of the permit area. Additional
explanation is located within the draft report which J. F. Sato
Associates has prepared, Exhibit 12.
Data resulting from the completion of the SOAP contract and resultant
surface water monitoring programs will be made ava ilable to the
• Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division as it becomes available.
Alternative Water Supply. It can be assumed that GEC Minerals,
Inc. will not disrupt the ground water supply within the area since
all indications to date indicate there are no significant amounts
of ground water within the area which GEC Minerals, Inc. plans to
mine. However, within the backflling operation, establishment of
an aquifer at the base of the fill itself is possible because of
the size and consistency of the material which has been placed in
the backfill itself. It is expected that quantity and quality of
water available for the uses will not be significantly impacted
because little or no water exists. If, however, ground water and
significant amounts of surface water are encountered, GEC Minerals,
Inc. will provide the necessary treatment if required prior to
discharge to insure that water quality within the area is not
adversely effected.
•
2.04-15
