III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
999
• Doc Date:12/11/2001
SI~ 2.04.7 Hydrology Information
Ground Water. GEC Minerals, Inc. currently has not encountered any
ground water bearing formations within its existing mining opera-
tions. In addition, drill hole data also indicates that no signi-
ficant amounts of ground water are present within the strata which
GEC Minerals, Inc. plans to mine during the next five years.
However, through the contract with J. F. Sato Associates, additional
ground water information will be provided and placed on the appropriate
map. Because no known ground water in the area is found, the quality
of the ground water, if it exists, is not currently known.
GEC Minerals, Inc. currently plans to drill additional holes primarily
to determine the location and extent of minable coal and to determine
if ground water is present. Based on J. F. Sato Associates' recommen-
dation, the detailed ground water monitoring plan will be put into
• effect.
Surface Water. All locations of the water supplies, ditches,
reservoirs and wells within one mile of the area which GEC Minerals,
Inc. plans to mine are located on Map Nos. 8 and 9, Hydrology.
Surface water in the area that GEC Minerals, Inc. plans to mine
is ephemeral. The Magpie and Newlin Creek drainages control the
surface water which occurs within the area. Water flows in these
drainages only in direct response to precipitation in the immediate
watershed or in response to rapid melting of the cover of snow.
Because of the nature of these watersheds, no quality or quantity
measurements have been made. However, based on recommendations
received from J. F. Sato Associates, a water monitoring program
will be implemented. This monitoring program will test for acidity,
suspended solids, iron and manganese as required by the Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Division. As noted in other sections of
this application, GEC Minerals, Inc. does not anticipate receiving
. final recommendations from the SOAP contractor with regard to
2.04-14
