•
Repradinp and Shapin
The pit slopes and floor will be backfilled and/or graded to achieve the approved
post-mining contour, in preparation for topsoil placement. Contour furrows or water
bars will be established on the pit slopes to reduce erosion and encourage stable
plant growth.
Topsoil Replacement
Topsoil replacement will occur following regrading and scarification of the surface
primarily in late summer and fall. This procedure limits the time that topsoil is
exposed prior to revegetation and avoids moving topsoil when it is frozen or too
wet.
Revepetation
Revegetation to predominantly native grassland will be undertaken. The
reclamation seed mix is shown in Table E-1. Table E-2 shows the seed mix for
temporary cover.
Seedinp Method
Seeding will be accomplished using either a seed drill properly equipped to meter
the native grasses of the mix, or using broadcast followed by harrowing or raking.
Seeding will be done in the Fall after October 15. Following seeding, the area will
be covered with certified clean straw at the rate of two (2) tons per.
Weed Management
The development of weeds will be closely monitored to ascertain the need for
control. Of greatest concern will be the development of Canada thistle ( it i
arvense), leafy spurge (Euohorbia esula), diffuse knapweed (Acosta diffusa),
spotted knapweed (Acosta maculosal, or whitetop ( r ri spp.). If any of these
appear during the first year after seeding, they will be eliminated by physical
removal performed repeatedly until they have been eradicated. The presence of
annual and biennial weeds during the first few years after seeding is normal and can
be expected to diminish thereafter.
Storm Drainage Plans
Storm drainage will be diverted and directed into the mined-out areas to the extent
possible such that no runoff from disturbed ground enters natural drainageways or
ditches during mining and reclamation activities. Other flows will be directed through a
sediment pond prior to discharge. A NPDES and Storm Water Runoff permit will be
obtained from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, if necessary.
