• The dry land capability of the Gapo clay loam series is reported by
SCS to be 2,000 pounds per acre for unfavorable precipitation years and
4,000 pounds per acre for favorable precipitation yers (Table 42).
Irrigated capabilities for this site aze not reported by the SCS.
Vegetation Information In The Studv Area
In connection with the vegetation information required by 30 CFR
779.19(a) aerial photographs were utilized to rep vegetation ~mrn~nities.
The study area shown on the EClanan Pazk Stream Channel Cross Sections
(Map 51) was ca~ared with plant carnrnmities shown on the Eckman Park
vegetation Map (Map 16). The Meadow Range site was found to correspond
closer to the study area than any other vegetation type.
Field data collected in 1977 (Table 32) and 1979 (Table 38) was
• asram;ned for differences in species presence and composition. Data
collected from field studies indicates sedges, meadow feswe, and kwrse-
tail were the only species restricted to the meadow vegetation oammmity.
Although not restricted to this type, timothy, elk thistle, rush and
clover were found in larger amounts in the meadow type than in the other
types. The most obvious difference between species conposition was an
increase in the abundance of rushes. Table 36 indicates that the species
yielding significant amounts of forage production on this site are rushes
(30 percent production) and sedges (14 percent production). According to
the OSM guidelines sedges and reeds are not useful for grazing or cropping
and cannot be used in the identification of possible alluvial valley
floors.
•
785-9(g)
