RPR-08-1999 10 41 RGRPITO RSSOCIRTES 970 245 9234 P.06
Draft: April 7, 1999
Page 4
with a known amount of analyze will monitor possible matrix effects specific to the samplq media.
Accuracy will be determined from the recovery rates of compounds (the matrix spike comipounds
defined in the analytical methods). Precision will be assessed by comparison of matrix spike
recoveries of the duplicates. T11e addition of known concentrations of compounds/paramett:rs into
the sample also monitors extrar~tion/digestion efficiency. These QA/QC samples are processed
internally by the laboratory, and no additional field samples will be submitted for this procedure.
Laboratory Blanks
The laboratory should process one blank sample for every 10-20 samples processed. This
data will be provided to American Soda in the laboratory QC report, and will be maintained with
project records.
6.6 External Quality Condol Checks-Third party Data Valydation
The val idiry of the laboratory water quality data will be assessed annually by athird-party
analytical laboratory. American Soda intends tv preferentially w•e the USES analytical laboratory
facilities for third parry validation. Water quality samples will be collected by American Sodu
personnel or USGS personnel, at the discretion of the USGS. The monitoring wells will he sdmp/ed
in a logical sequence, such that all wells are sampled equally. The third party laboratory will
analyzeparametersfromWQ2(Table3)andpreparearepurrdocumentingthere.suits. ACvlorado-
eertifiedanalytical laboratory that is nor in any other way irrvolved with the Yankee Gulch ,Section
Minerals Prujecf will be used as a secondary alternative to the USGS laboratory.
6.7 Preventative Maintenance
If a procedure calls for the use of any instruments, the instrument will be calibrated according
to manufacturer's recommendations. In general, preventative maintenance will follow proc~dtues
from the manufacturer. A schedule of calibration and maintenance will be kept with the instrlunent.
6.8 Data Assessment Procedures
Data quality will be evaluated based on sampling techniques and analytical quality controls.
AColorado-certified laboratory will be used, therefore formalized audits of laboratory systems by
American Soda wil l not be conducted. Informal audits of field work will be sufficient to ensure that
SOPS are being followed. Ptrformance of both field and laboratory QA systems will be assessed
based on resulu of laboratory and field quality control samples.
Agapito Associates, Inc.
