3.3 RECLAIMED FACILITIES
•
•
3.3.1 Fills
The safety factor of existing fills which are con-
structed at their angle of repose must be close to unity.
This is not considered satisfactory for long-term stability
after abandonment of the mine and reclamation of the site
area, particularly since the reclaimed site should be essenti-
ally maintenance free.
A suitable increase in safety factor for the reclaimed
fills will have to be achieved by a reconfiguration of the
existing fill slopes to reduce their overall angle. Stability
analyses are required in order to determine the increase in
safety factor achieved by alternate reconfigurations, and also
to evaluate possible long-term changes in conditions, such as
increased ground water levels.
3.3.2 Cuts
The overall stability of rock cuts is generally con-
sidered to be satisfactory at present. However, some cuts
where there is currently a potential for rockfall problems
will have to be reclaimed in order to eliminate the long-term
effects of the rockfall problem.
The diversion channel cut may require some immediate
modifications in order to achieve acceptable stability. How-
ever, further flattening or STittressing of the slope may be
necessary for final reclamation.
I Other cuts in soils will be reclaimed selectively.
Selection of cuts to be reclaimed will be based on evaluation
• ~~ of the consequences of failure rather than on stability
~ analyses, since it is considered that this approach will mini-
mize the disturbance to the cuts which have already been
successfully reve~etated.
GEOHYDQO CONSULTING, INC.
20 _
