r 1
L J
u
•
3.2 PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION
3.2.1 Waste Rock Pile
It is proposed to construct a waste rock pile on the
relatively level colluvial soils below the crushing and
screening level fill. The pile will consist exclusively of
breaker reject material. The regulatory requirements to be
satisfied in the design of this pile will depend on the
classification of the waste rock material.
The waste pile will be restricted to the higher eleva-
tions between minor drainages in order to avoid blocking the
drainages. Proposed alternate locations of the waste pile
are indicated on Plate 2. Our preliminary estimates indi-
cate that, assuming the pile is constructed with side slopes
of 1.0(v):2.0(h) and does not exceed 50 feet in height above
the original ground surface, the eastern location would pro-
vide a total capacity in excess of 50,000 yd3, while the ca-
pacity of a pile at the western site would exceed 150,000 yd3
The estimated volume of waste rock which will be pro-
duced during the 40 year life of the mine is on the order of
20,000 to 40,000 yd3, depending on the production rate and
waste factor, though this may be subject to change. It would
therefore appear that either site has sufficient capacity for
the projected output of waste during the mine life.
Our inspection of the existing waste rock pile and
discussions caith CidI personnel indicate that the waste rock
pile will contain a high percentage of lump coal, something
on the order of 50%. The origin of the breaker reject ma-
terial and our slake durability testing indicate that this
- 17 -
GE6HYDY0 CONSULfING.IHO.
