In 2002, W FC backfilled and graded 30.88 acres. W FC topsoiled 18.57 acres and permanently seeded
10.57 acres. This reclamation work will greatly reduce the runoff of sediment from disturbed land to our
sediment ponds.
During 2001, WFC received Phase III Reclamation Bond Release for the New Horizon I permit area.
Ponds 001,002,004,005,and 006 were used in this area to control surface water quality. Since we
received final bond release, Ponds 001-006 were no longer needed and were removed and reclaimed
during the 2002.
Pond 007, 008 and the newly constructed 009 were in operation at the end of December 2002. Pond
007 had a continual water discharge throughout the year and all WET test results came back favorable.
Pond 008 did not discharge throughout the entire year of 2002. WFC had a 2001 4'" quarter W ET test
and some accelerated W ET test failures. The water being discharged was from a pit dewatering pump.
After W FC was notified of the failures, we ceased pit pumpage into Pond 008 and notified CDPHE. The
only explanation for the unacceptable Ceriodauphnia dubia death rate was that the retention time
between pit pumping and discharge was to short. The sam pit pump water was directed through Pond
007 and it passed all the test with good results. Pond 008 was then allowed to dry up and now it is
basically empty and has 100% storage capacity.
Pond 009, was constructed during the year and it has received zero inflow. It has been dry all year.
Were changes made to your SWMP for 2002? Yes
A new sediment pond, Pond 009, was constructed at the NHII area to assist in the SWMP plan. The
design for this sediment pond was submitted and approved by the DMG office. There was no discharge
from this pond in 2002. At the New Horizon II area, all culverts and ditches leading into Pond 007 were
capable of functioning as designed. There was no measurable flow thru these ditches the entire year.
Inflow water into Pond 007 came from pit dewatering via overland pipeline.
F: \data\updata\storm\02ewmprp.doc 2-3
