• • • 1/25 <br />R2-C Bowdish-Pulpit complex, 3 to 67.1 <br />These gently sloping soils are on uplands in the central and <br />northwestern part of the survey area at elevations of 5500 to 6800 <br />feet: The anverage annual precipitation is abouC 15 inches. Average <br />annual air temperature is 46 to 50 degrees. The Bowdish soil makes <br />up 357, of the complex, Pulpit soil makes up 357, and Sharps soil makes <br />up 257, of the complex, <br />Bowdish soil is a moderately deep, well drained soil. It. formed <br />~ in moderately thin, calcareous loess overlying shale. <br />t <br />~ Typically the surface layer is a dark reddish brown, calcareous, <br />loam about 2 inches thick. The underlying layer is a pink, calcareous, <br />~ loam that contains about 357 calcium carbonate. It has a few shale <br />and sandstone fragments. This horizon extends to about 30 inches and <br />rests on soft shale and interbedded sandstone. <br />1 Permeability is moderate or moderately slow. Effective rooting <br />depth is 20 to 40 inches. Available water capacity is moderate. <br />Surface runoff is medium. Erosion hazard is high; <br />Pulpit soil is, a moderately deep, well drained soil. It formed <br />in calcareous loess overlying hard sandstone. <br />Typically the surface la}•er is a dark reddish brown loam about <br />4 incl~ea thick. The subsoil is a reddish brown light clay loam about <br />18 inches thick. This overlies reddish brown loam and pink fine sandy <br />loam about 14 inches thick.
