• Exchangeable Sodium and Potassium from Rock Interburden
Sarnples
1. Weigh 10 g. of air-dried soil into 50-m1. centrifuge tube.
2. Add 25 m1. of 1.0 N ammonium acetate (A`t-140Ac). Stopper
and shake slurry for 10 minutes. Make certain the
solution thoroughly coets soil samples.
3. Centrifuge the tube and contents until the supernatant
is clear (5 min. @ 6,000 rpm). Decant the supernatant
into a 100-m1. flask.
4
Make 3 additional extractions in the same manner;
add to first extract. Filter combined extract to
remove turbidity. Dilute the combined extracts
to 100 ml. with 1.0 N NH40Ac. Label as Solution
• 5. Determine total \a+ and K+ by flame photometry.
6. Calculate the exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP)
and exchangeable potassium percentage (EPP).

TTT_
