r1
LJ
2. The topsoil stripping volumes shown on Table 3 were calcu-
lated using an average topsoil depth. For example, the
Routt soil series on the property has a range from 20-34 in-
ches by actual field observations. The range represents a
high and a low. A good approximation of the average topsoil
depth (A Horizon) would be calculated by adding 20" + 34" _
54" 2 = 27" average topsoil depth.
The following average topsoil stripping and replacement
depths were used in calculating topsoil volumes in Table 3.
Topsoil Topsoil
Year Removed (Inches) (Replaced (Inches)
Pre-1980 18. in. 17.9 in.
1980 25.8 in. 17.0 in.
1981 23.5 in. 18.1 in.
1982 20.4,:x. 22.8 i n.
1983 22.6i.n: 22.5 in.
1984 0 23.1 in.
1985 20.4 •i n. 24.9 in.
' The topsoil calculations are based on the VTN study, Volume III,
Appendix F.
