The
Division is requiring H-G to submit a revegetation monitoring plan to
evaluate revegetation areas at the Hayden Gulch Mine.
RESPONSE
A monitoring plan for revegetated areas has been developed to determine the
initial success of reclamation practices. The plan to be utilized is:
° Herbaceous vegetation sampling will be conducted during the
peak of the growing season, late June to early August.
• Vegetation monitoring will be initiated during the 1985 growing
season. Reclaimed areas in the third growing season or older
will be combined and sampled as one area. Reclaimed areas in
the second growing season will be sampled individually.
Herbaceous cover, herbaceous production, diversity and shrub
density information will be collected. The sampling techniques
will be comparable to those described for sampling of reference
areas,
The sampling conducted for the monitoring plan will not neces-
sarily meet statistical adequacy. A minimum number of samples
will be collected to obtain information that is representative
of the conditions of the reclaimed area. The following guide
will be utilized for areas in the third growing season or
older:

Rev. March 1985
