I live approximately 4 '/~ miles to the south of this location, on
Hwy 115. 1 am not in favor of this operation for the following reasons:
1. Traffic on Hwy 115 is already a problem as faz as I'm concerned. Heavy at times,
and with the new posted speed limit of 60 mph, the realistic speed limit is more like
65 or 70 mph. Increased traffic of large trucks will not help the situation, with large
trucks pulling out into traffic, increased potential for broken windshields, etc.
2. It is my understanding that the mining of this gravel will involve particulazly strong
blasting, due to the extremely hard nature of the material. I have heazd that there is
no proposal for crushing because the material will be exploded with such force that
crushing will not be required. I am concerned about my well, and the wells of other
property owners in the azea. I have already experienced problems with a portion of
my well casing collapsing, and this proposed operation may be close enough to cause
further problems with my well and other wells in the surrounding areas. If I have a
problem, I'm the one that would have to come up with $7-$8 thousand dollazs to have
my well re-drilled, and I'm sure Castle Concrete would never claim any
responsibility.
3. We have no other options for water other than our own private wells, there aze no
public water supplies anywhere this area.
