1

PARKERSON GRAVEL PIT
SUMMARY OF OPERATION
The proposed gravel pit is located southwest of the
intersection of 32 Road (Colorado Highway 146) and
county Road C~,. More generally south of the Colorado
' River and east of 32 Road southeast of Grand Junction,
Colorado.

_l

1

The gravel is a terrace deposit about 40 feet above
the present Colorado River. A silty overburden is
generally 10 to 20 feet thick over the terrace but is
locally eroded to less than that at this pit site.
Overburden will vary from zero to about 15 feet thick.
Bedrock is Mancos shale at the bottom of the gravel,
Across the property line to the north is an excavated
gravel pit. County maintenance facilities are located
across C~ Road in the old gravel pit area. Immediately
to the west is 32 Road and west of that is a commercial
subdivision. South and east of the proposed gravel pit
is farmland owned by Leon Parkerson.
It is proposed that the pit excavation will leave a
berm on the property lines to the north and west to
screen the operation from 32 road and C'~ road.
t
