1
1

s
t MESh GRAVELi:d CLr.Y LOA•:, 5 to 10 percent slopes, C'_ass IVe Land (IBS)
' This soil occurs principally on terrace slopes or escarpments.
Except for its greater slope, this soil closely resembles Mesa gravelly
clay loam, 2 tc 5 percent slopes. Its workability is someu::et less
favorable, houe•rer, as it is m,re gravelly and cobtly. Har:ful con-
' centrations of salts are negligible.
The soil is not so productive as the Mesa clay loam s, because the
' excess gravel, cobbles, and stones in the surface soil and throughout
the profile reduce the moisture-holding capacity. Painstaking ap-
' placation of irrigation water, with special care ir. regulating rate of
flew, is regLired to prevent unnecessa__^y loss of surface soil.
' Soil limitations are classified as severe for sewage lage:r.s (rapid
peraeability).

1
