M
REVEGETATION GUIDELINES
1. After earth disturbance operations the following steps ar needed;
A. SLde :.lopes r;liouLd he flnLter Ch:m 3:1. Slope:: of G: ur
flatter arc much more desir-.ible for greaCCr success; ii
re-establishment of vegetation and operation of equip ent.
B. Excess water from adjacent areas should not be allowe to
flow onto the area unless erosion control practices a e
implemented.
C. Length of slope should be properly controlled to prev~ nt
erosion.
D. Topsoil is needed on sites having exposed soil surfac~s
low in organic material and texture classification of
clay loam or heavier. This need increases significant lly
if the soils are inherently dry, if the slopes are
greater than 6:1 and if the slope aspect is south or ~
southwest. Topsoil should be applied after shaping a~ d tilled
to a depth of 6 inches binding topsoil to existing so 1.
2. Fer tilization
A. Fertilizer of not less than 40 lbs. nitrogen and 40 1 s.
phosphorous should be applied unless a soil analysis ndicates
sufficient amounts of these elements. Application of
fertilizers should be immediately prior to or at the ime
of seeding.
3. See dbed Preparation I~~
A. The seedbed should be prepared immediately following 3 11
earth moving operations prescribed in the engineering and
landscape design.
B. All rocks, trash and other debris that will interfere with
seeding should be removed. Till the ground to a dept-~{r of
4 to 6 inches. If the seedbed is prepared immediatel
following construction this operation can usually be mitted,
except on fresh cut areas that have not otherwise bee
disturbed. Apply fertilizer, seed and mulch, if need
I d.
4. Mul ching
I
A. A mulch may be needed to conserve moisture, prevent
crusting, reduce runoff and erosion and help establis
a plant cover.
B. Mulching material should be applied immediately befor~ or
after seeding.
C. Either one of the mulching methods listed below would be
acceptable.
e
1. Grass hay or cereal grain straw should be used at
:ut applica tl on ra Ce of 4,000 lhs./ac. oC air dry ii a feria 1.
At least SU'% of the mulch by weight shall be 10 i ches
or more in length. Anchor mulch immediately afte
distributing with mulch crimper or disc plow.
