' EAST MIDDLE FORK
' East Middle Fork is a tributary of the Middle Fork of Parachute
Creek. The WQCC has proposed use classifications and water quality
standards fot Recreation Class 2, Cold Water Aquatic Class 1, Water
' Supply, and Agriculture.
Currently the East Middle Fork drainage has received little
development associated with the Exxon's Colony Shale project. Current-
) ly the primary use of the stream is the support of aquatic life.
7 Access to the lower segment of the stream is controlled by Exxon.
Access to the upper reaches is difficult.
l Water quality problems that could potentially limit use of the
f stream are limited and are the result of natural conditions. Aquatic
life in the stream has been studied in 1973 and 1982. Fish species
are limited to cutthroat/rainbow hybrids. The populations of fish
decrease as one moves downstream due to the deterioration in habitat.
Exxon recommends that the following use classifications and water
quailty standards be established for East Middle Fork:
Cold Water Aquatic Life Class 1
DO 6.0 mg/1, 7.0 mg/1 spawning
pH = 6.5 - 9.0
NH3 = 0.02 mg/l, unionized
1 Cyanide (free) = 0.005 mg/1
S as H S 0.002 mg/1, undissociated
Nitrite = 0.05 mg/1
Arsenic 0.05 mg/1
Cadmium = 0.005 mg/1
Chromium (Tri) = 0.1 mg/1
Chromium (Hex) = 0.025 mg/1
Copper = 0.01 mg/1
Lead 0.05 mg/1
Iron (Tot.) 1.0 mg/1
1 Manganese (Tot.) = 1.0 mg/1
Mercury = 0.00005 mg/1
Nickel = 0.2 mg/1
1 Selenium = 0.05 mg/1
Silver = 0.00015 mg/1
Zinc = 0.1 mg/1
-~ - Recreation Class 2
Fecal Coliform = 2000/100 ml
v
