ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS
Do not apply directly m water, or m areas whore surface water is present, or to
intertidal areas below the mean high water mark. Do not contarninam water when
disposing of equipment wazhwatcrs.
This herbicide is injurious ro plants at extremely law concentrations. Nontarget
plants may be adversely effected from drift and run-off.
• IMPORTANT
DO NOT USE ON FOOD OR FEED CROPS EXCEPT AS RECOMMENDED BY
THIS LABEL OR SUPPLEMENTAL LABELING. Injury to or loss of desirable
trees or other plants may result from failure m observe the following: Do not
appy DuPon[iA1 ESCORT' XP herbicide (except as recommended), or drain or
flush equipment on or near desirable trees or other plants, or on areas whets their
roou may extend or in locations where the chemical may be washed of moved ism
contact with their roots. Do not use on Wwns, walks, driveways, unnis coutts,
or similar auras. Prevent drift of spiny to desirable plants. Do not coamminsu
any body of water, including irtigadon waur. Keep from contact with fertilizers,
insecticides, fungicides and seeds. '"
Following an ESCORI'e XP application, do not use sprayer for application m
crops. This is extremely important as law rates of ESCORT. XP can kill or -
severcly injure most crops (kept small grains).
GENERAL INFORMATION
ESCORT XP herbicide is a dispersible granule that is mixed in waur and applied
as a spray. ESCORT'' XP controls many annual and perennial weeds and woody
pleats in non-crap areas and conifer plantations.
ESCORT XP may be used for general weed and brash control on industrial
noncrop sites and for selective weed control in certain types of unimproved turf
grosses on industrial sites and in native grosses, Ie can also be used for controlling
and suppressing undesirable weeds and hardwoods in conifer plantations.
ESCORT XP controls weeds and woody plants primarily by po5temergcnt activ-
t_- try. Although ESCORT XP bas prcemergeace activity, best results arc grnemlly
°; brained w4en ESCORT XP is applied to foliage afrer emergence or dormancy
rock. Except where noud, ESCORT XP provides nSe best results when applied
u young, actively growing weeds. The use rate depends upon the weed species
and size a[ the time of apphcation.
The degree and duration of control may deprnd on the following:
• weed spectrum and infestation intensity
Ba[abase and format copvri~ht G by C&P Aress. Ail rights reserved.
• weed size a[ application
• environmental conditions at and following treatment
• soil pH, soil moismm, and sail organic matter
It is permissible m apply ESCORT XP m (loodplains where surface wear is not
present. teresirial areas of deltas and low lying areas where water E drained but
may be isolated in pockets due to uneven or unleve] conditions.
ESCORT XP is noncorosive, nonflammable, nonvolatile and does not freeze.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND BIOLOGICAL ACTMTY
ESCORT XP is absoficd primarily through the foliage of plants, and by the
roots to a lesser degree. Plant cell division is generally inhtbiud in sensitive
plants within a few hours following uptake. Two m 4 weeks afrer application,
leaf growth slows followed by discolorntiou and tissue death. Toe 5nal effect on
annual weeds are evident about 4 to 6 wr_ks afrer application, The uldmau effect
on perennial weeds and woody plants octmrs in the growing season following
application.
Warm, moist conditions following ueaonent promote the activity of ESCORT
XP, while cold, dry conditions may reduce err delay activity. Weeds and brash
hardened off by cold weather or drought stress tray not be controlled.
The use of a surfactant is~ recommended.to enhance the control of susceptible
plants, except where noted. Apply at a minimum rate (concentration) of V,%
vplumGvolume (1 qt. p<c 100 gal. of spray solution), oc tit the manufaemrcr's
recommended rate. Use only EPA approved surfactants containing at ]east 80%
active ingredient Certain types of surfactanss, such as those incorpamting acetic
acid (i.e. L1-700), may not be compadbte with ESCORT XP and tnay result
in decreased performance. Certain surfactants may not be suimble for use on
desirable plants, such as mrf and conifrrs, listed on this label. Consult the
surfactant manufacmrcr's Iabe1 for appropriate uses. ,
Weed and brash connnl may be reduced if rainfall occurs soon after application.
RESISTANCE
Biotypes of certain weeds listed on this label an ruistant m ESCORT XP and
other herbicideswidt the same mode of action, even at exaggem[ed application
rates. Biotypes are naturally occurring individuals of a species that are idrntical in
appearance but have slightly difi<rent geaeuc compositions; the mode of action of
a herbicide is the chemical inumetion [hat interrupts a biologicalprocess necessary
for plant growth and development ~ -
!f weed control is unsatisfactory, it may be necessary m retreat problem areas
using a product wish a different mode of action, such u postem<rgcncc broadleaf
and/or grass herbicides.
If resistant weed biotypes such as kochia, prickly lettuce, and Russian thistle am
suspecud or known to be present use a mnk•mix partner with ESCORT XP m
help conuol these biotypes, or use a plannid habreide rotation program where
other residual broadleaf herbicides having different modes of action arc used.
