L~J

1

Exhibit A within the Appendrx is an aerial photograph of the proposed site and vicinity depicting the
road system which will be utilized during the mining process. The following is a description of the
roads beginning az the proposed pit and proceeding ro I-25 access:
Pit Access Road- existing 15' travel width with partial gravel base extending from the pit site
area, through the northwest comer of the sedimentation pond and to its intersection with
Baptist Road (18' R-O-W). The total length of this segmem is approximately 1500 feet This
road is currently owned and maintained by the applicant This application includes surface
reclamation of a 30' width for the total length (approximately 1 acre). Ultimate use of the
road after mining operations are completed will be private access as a ranch service road for
the applicant's range stock operations. During mining operations this road will be maintained
by the applicant to include dust abatement and erosion control as needed. The road will be
secured by a locked gate and posted according m state criteria immediately west of the
intersection with Baptist Road.
Baptist Road Intersection (18' R-O-W)- This portion of Baptist Road is located at the pit
access mad intersection approximately i/. mile east of the pit At this point Baptist Road is an
18' R-O-W maintained by El paso County. The applicant will provide adequate drainage, such
as ditches and or culverts parallel with the mad orientation. This intersection is also the
beginning point of a new proposed 30' road m be used for the applicant's pit traffic. Gravel
haul wcks and other pit traffic will cross Baptist road at this location. A sign and
mechanical gate will be installed on the east side of the intersection to secure access to the
proposed road for pit traffic only.
Proposed 30' Pit Access Road- This new segmen[ will extend from the Baptist Road
intersection (18' ROW), crossing the applicant's pasture in a circuitous northeasterly route to
the existing Baptist Road (60' ROW) west of the Mitchell road intersection. EI Paso County
and the landowner/applicant are currently investigating a proposed reroute of Baptist Road that
will eliminate the sharp bend and width constriction at the Dellacroce Residence. This reroute
pQ Q\qt7
~
~ will likely start at the existing intersection of Bapist Road and Mitchell Road and proceed
18' ROW
H
h
i
i
i
i
i
h
h
i
i
~ owever,
sout
westerly to a conven
ent trans
on po
nt w
t
t
e ex
st
ng
.
t
~
` ~p
v scheduling for the proposed Baptist Road Reroute cannot be anticipated. The proposed 30' pit
,S
~ access road will be siruated north and west of the proposed reroute, in the hatched area shown
on the aerial man. but an exac[ location cannot be determined until the reroute is also located.
\~y `-~ If the proposed reroute can be implemented before or during the gravel operation, one road
~ crossing by pit haul traffic can be eliminated. The proposed pit access road is estimated to be
a maximum of 2 acres (based on 30' width by 2800' length) and is included within this permit
for purposes of surface reclamation. The applicant will implement dust abatement and
erosion control far this portion during the pit operation. Ultimate use of this road is as a
private access, ranch service road.
Baptist Road 60' R-O-W This portion of Baptist Road extends east from the (undetermined)
location of the 30' access road, crossing Monument Creek, then approximately 3,200 feet to its
intersection with I-25 crossing the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad and the Old
Denver Road. The county has installed the appropriate traffic safety devices at these crossings
' [o protect motorist activity and maintains the road. Due to the higher level of service of this
portion of Baptist Road R-O-W, pit traffic will not adversely impact motorists.
1
P-9
