The only _urface facilities proposed for the federal lands is an intake ventilation shaft which, unless properly miticated, ~;;ould di~rinish the scenic quality of the federal lands. The criterion, therefore, is applicable. Exception: It is possible, through the use of vegetative screenings and other techniques, to mitigate the visual impacts cf the proposed ventilation shaft. These mitigating measures mould reduce the impact of the ventilation shaft to arithin the establisher limits for visual i~„pacts r,'hich are permissible in Class II areas. The criterion, therefore, is applicable but an exception also applies. In conclusion, the federal lards are not unsuitable. Criterion No. 6 -- Lands Used for Scientific Study Analysis: Examination of the i~~aster Title Plat (I~TP) for T. 13 S., R. 90 k'., 6th P.ii., does not indicate that any scientific studies have been permitted by BLid for these federal lands. :•
