The valley along the
North Fork Gunnison River was mapped from about 1 mile above
the coal loadout facility to its confluence with Stevens Gulch.
Stevens Gulch was mapped from its confluence with the North
Fork to approximately 2 mile above the well field site. Both
areas were mapped together at a scale of 1:24,000 on the USGS
topographic quadrangles, Bowie and Gray Reservoir. (Plate 1).
In addition, the well field and stockpile-loadout sites were
mapped separately at 1 inch equals 500 feet.
Mapping for Phase 1 has been performed without accurate
surveying, and the maps are therefore of limited accuracy.
A-Z TEST PITS
The subsurface conditions of the alluvial valley floor
areas were investigated by excavating, logging and sampling a
total of four test pits. Test pits TP-1 and TP-2 were located
in the North Fork Gunnison River alluvium near the loadout
facility. Test pits TP-3 and TP-3 were excavated in the Stevens
Gulch alluvium at the well field site. The locations of the
test pits are shown on Plates 2 and 3. The logs of the test
pits are presented on Plate A-1.
No borings were drilled in Phase 1 of this study. Plates
A-2 and A-3 present geologic sections prepared from boring
A-1
CEO-evoRO conw~nr~, inc.
