(FMCRC)
Tom Alvey (North Fork Water Conservancy District)
Bill Bear, Brad Hanson, and Jim Stover (Bowie Mine)
Bob Major and Kathleen Ozga (Reclamation)
Summary:
Attendees visited each of the discharge ponds located above the Fire Mountain Canal
(Canal), and Bowie #2 Mine (Bowie) personnel and consultant provided the following
information, This was the fourth documented trip report (previous trips were conducted
on Apri121, October 5, and October 26, 2004).
Each pond is built to contain a 10-year frequency 24-hour duration precipitation event
(1.8 inches) flood, but can control and pass using the emergency spillways, a 25-year
24-hour duration precipitation event (2.1 inches) flood. This is with the assumption that
the level of water in the ponds has been lowered to designated levels that allows
containment of the 10-year flood. Each pond is designed to have a controlled discharge
spillway (gated discharge pipe or pump) and an emergency spillway. Sediment in the
ponds is to be removed as needed to be able to contain the 10-year flood.
