for more than one growing season and will be constructed with a minimum 2: I slope.
Re rading and Shaning
13
The pit slopes will be backfilled from their mined condition and "mined-through" location, to an
undulating shoreline with rounded corners. The backfill will be placed in 3:1 slopes leading to
the reservoir/pit bottom, prior to topsoil placement, using a mixture of shale from the pit floor
and overburden, depending on reclamation detail at that point..
Approximately 1 ft. (12 inches) of topsoil will be placed on all disturbed level areas around the
reservoir pond, and on a113:1 slopes, both above and slightly below the expected high water-line,
for the filled reservoir. Contour furrows will be established on the shoreline slopes to reduce
erosion and encourage stable plant growth. Topsoil will be smoothed out along the shoreline and
furrowed as seedbed preparation for successful native grass seeding and growth.
Tonsoil Replacement
Topsoil replacement to a thickness of approximately 1 fr. will occur following sloping and
regrading of all disturbed surface areas that will be exposed above and 3 feet below the high-
water level of the filled reservoirs within the permit area and after placement of PVC liner in
Section AA portions..
Topsoil spread asplant-growth medium will be spread over ground that has been smoothed and
readied for topsoil replacement. Due to the loose and permeable nature of the sand and gravel
over the slightly disturbed pit edges ripping or scarifying of the disturbed ground will not be
required. Disking of the topsoil maybe required due to compaction while in storage; and this
will be performed prior to seeding, if necessary.
Reveeetation
Soil Amendments
Replaced topsoil will be subjected to agricultural testing for the major plant nutrients (nitrogen,
phosphorus, and potassium) prior to revegetation to assess the need for fertilizer. If test results
show a need for amendments, a fertilizer with the appropriate ratio of major nutrients will be
selected and applied prior to reseeding. NRCS soil fertilizer recommendations, if any, will be
followed.
Mulch
In order to minimize impacts from wind and water erosion and to protect newly revegetated
areas, a native hay or straw mulch is proposed. Mulch will be applied at a rate of 2000
pounds/acre and crimped or disked into the topsoil surface. Only mulch certified as weed and
pest free will be employed. Mulch will not be used in areas along the pond margins where it may
become wet or molded.
2RR app
CDMG 112
