• MINING PLAN
GENERAL
The sand and gravel mining operation proposed in this lermit
application will be a major disturbance. It is an expansion of
the existing Barnhart Pit limited impact ( 110) permit io a regular
( 112) permit.
The aggregates to be mined vary in thickness from 23 tc 27 feet
averaging 25 feet and will be removed down to the unde lying
shale, some 26 to 30 feet below surface elevation. Thl deposit
contains approximately 2 .54 million tons of aggregate. (Pit run)
Maximum anticipated mining rate will be 350,000 tons p r year
resulting in a pit life of 7 .25 years. The exhibits a d
timetables are predicated upon this extraction rate. he actual
rate may vary from this due to market conditions and c stomer
demand for the products. The sequence and relative ti ing
presented in the plan will be followed.
TOPSOIL
• Topsoil within the affected area varies in thickness f om 0 to 84
inches averaging approximately 26 inches. All availab e topsoil
will be removed from areas prior to any other disturba ce. This
material will be stored in locations as shown on Map D 1 or, when
possible, be placed in concurrent reclamation areas wi hout
interim storage. Topsoil handling will be done with f ont-end
loader and/or scraper.
Topsoil in storage will be protected from erosion by d tching or
berming around the sides of the piles.
No material other than the immediate topsoil exists ov r the
bearing aggregates. Therefore, no other stockpiles of non-product
material will be required.
MINING
The high ground water level and proxiimity to the Arka sas River
will yield a wet pit operation as demonstrated by prio oper-
ations. Primary extraction will be done with a 1 -1 /2 ubic yard
Northwest dragline. A minor amount of the aggregate m y be
removed with front-end loaders. All final slopes will be left not
exceeding a 3 to 1 slope.
•
