Denver Brick Company AEE Project E95-7084
Stevens Lease Clay Mina January 8, 1999
Douglas County, Colorado Pape (11)
cover will be limited to no more than five to ten acres at any one time before reclamation
commences. The seed mix for revegetation wilt emulate the existing vegetation to the extent
possible.
4.10 Impacts on Air and Water Quality
If necessary, the operator will obtain and operate in compliance with a fugitive dust permit
from the CDPHE Air Quality Control Division. In general, operations will occur in clay-rich
soils which have a large surface to volume ratio and exhibit a strong moisture retention
capacity. In this type of material, wind deflation has a relatively minimal impact on loose
material.
Any necessary mitigation measures will include:
• Dust generated by mining is minimal due to the relative moisture content of the
clay (at least five percent).
• All clay stockpiles will be covered with plastic immediately upon completion of
excavation.
• Overburden stockpiles will be short term. Immediately after extraction of the
clay, overburden will be replaced into the mine pit.
• Vehicle staging and travel areas will be treated by a dust suppressant as
necessary to prevent airborne dust.
• Speed will be limited on the access road and a dust suppressant will be applied
when necessary.
• Other measures as required in compliance with the fugitive dust permit.
Ground water will not be encountered during the mining operation. Surface water quality will
be addressed by a drainage plan including erosion and sediment control under separate cover.
4.11 Impacts on Peace and Quiet of Neighborhood
No direct impacts from the mine site are expected to affect neighboring land uses. Adjacent
land uses are agricultural. There are no noise-sensitive land uses within one-half mile of the
mine site. No blasting will occur during mine operations. Potential generation of noise would
result frpm operation of mine equipment on-site. Noise levels will comply with sta;a
regulations for noise levels at the property line. Any necessary noise mitigation measures will
include:
' • Adequate separation from neighboring land uses. There are no existing noise-
sensitive land uses, such as residences, closer than one-half mile to the mine
permit area. Noise would not be expected to be above the ambient noise level
at that distance.
~AGRA
Earth & Environmental
