Section 779.13 (a) Continued.
• The "general area" as defined by 30 CFR 770.5 is, with respect to
hydrology, the topographic and ground water basin that surrounds
the mine plan area, which basin is of sufficient size, including
areal extent and depth, to include one or more watersheds con-
taining perennial streams and ground water zones and which will
allow assessment of the probable cumulative impacts on the quantity
and quality of surface and ground water syster„s in the basins.
Both the "adjacent area" and the "proposed mine plan area" as
defined in 30 CFR 701.5 lie within the "general area" as previously
described.
A detailed description of the geology of the permit area, the mine
plan area, the adjacent area, and the general area is contained
under Section 779.14. The general area, with respect to ground
water, is delineated by a topographic, structural and ground water
• basin known as Twentymile Park. The boundary of this basin was
defined by selecting an easily identifiable member bed, the Trout
Creek Sandstone, which is hydraulically separate from strata to be
disturbed by mining. This stratigraphic base of [he basin is the
contact of the Williams Fork and the Iles Formations.
Detailed ground water informatiott for the general area, the adja-
cent area, and the mine plan area is set forth in the discussion
under Section 779.15.
The general area, with respect to surface water is approximately
coincident with the general area defined by the ground water basin
and includes two watersheds containing perennial streams: the
watershed of Fish Creek and the watershed of upper Trout Creek.
The size of the general area was carefully chosen to be large
enough to provide an adequate assessment of the impacts of the
Energy Fuels mining operations and small enough to eliminate "masking"
•
779-9
