Section 779.12 (b) Continued.
• discoveries of a white chert projectile point and a biafacially
worked chert fragment. A chert flake was found in Section 8,
Township 4 North, Range 86 West.
During 1975, Dr. Calvin Jennings found lithic scatter in Section
31, Township 5 North, Range 86 [lest; he hypothesized that the area
could have been used as campsite. These archaeological sites are
shown on the Historical and Archaeological Site (Map 5).
The archaeological work performed by Dr. Alan Olson, Dr. Calvin
Jennings, and the Bureau of Land Management indicates that there
are no significant archaeological values. This decision is spe-
cifically confirmed in the BLM Environmental Assessment Report,
dated January 18, 1979, which states on page 134:
"There will be no significant impacts on archaeological
values in any of the three coal lease applications (C-22644,
• C-26913, and C-22676) unless buried sites or sites located in
the heavy vegetation zones exist and are disturbed, No pre-
historic sites eligible or likely to be eligible to the.
National Register will be affected by this undertaking."
If archaeological items are encountered or identified during mining,
notification will be given to the regulatory authority so that the
item may be examined by a qualified archaeologist and salvaged if
appropriate.
Section 779.13 Description of hydrology and geology: General
Requirements.
(a) Each application shall contain a description of the geology,
hydrology, and water quality and quantity of all lands within the
proposed mine plan area, the adjacent area, and the general area. The
description shall include information on the characteristics of all
surface and ground waters within the general area, and any water which
• will flow into or receive discharges of water from the general area.
779-7
