MINING AND RECLAMATION PLAN October, 1979
17 T. GUNNISON NO. 1 A7INE Revised September 24, 1981
Revised October 7, 1981
;~

3.1.8 Lay-Down Area
During the construction, it will be necessary to establish a lay-down area to
stockpile topsoil, store sand and gravel supplies, provide space for lay-down of
materials and equipment being received from vendors, park construction
equipment, and store fuel for the construction equipment.
ARCO has leased a portion of the adjacent U.S. Steel property in Section !0 to
accomodate a construction lay-down area to be used during the construction phase
only (approximately 12 months). Figure 3.1.8.A shows the area which would be
used as a lay-down area in Section 10, consisting of approximately ten acres.
Figure 3.1.8.8 shows the revised permit area which includes the lay-down area, and
Figure 3.1.8.C shows the utilization of the lay-down area.
After the access road has been constructed to give access to the 6300' elevation
bench, another lay-down area will be established north of Fresh Water Pond I/1,
located within the hairpin curve of the access road. This second lay-down area is
completely within the original permit area. This will complement, and eventually
replace, the proposed 10-acre lay-down area in Section 10.
The need for a clean water ditch, normally associated with a disturbed area, is not
needed for the U.S. Steel lease land because of :he present existance of a road
located south and up grade of the lease boundary line. This road intercepts
undisturbed runoff and carries away from the disturbed area. All other runoff
b0!o'a~ the road ':: ill be co1!ected ~t'ithin the ditches and berms, and directed to the
settling area (see Figure 3.1.8.D).
The height of the berm at the settling area will vary from ;' to 9' depending on the
c=reag5 ^_lSt'JrCed 15trlpped Of :ODSC!!)• 1°_ ap~rcxlma:ely 2 2„'e5 were stripped of
--- ... -. --. __e1 s:ora;e a^.. tn_ remainde- t` .... !a, do~:~., area !ef:.-~ .a natural
state, then a berm would be constructed 4' higti for a distance 100 feet sou*.:`: and
3-20
