~~,1~
TECHNICAL REVISION TO CMLRB PERMIT C-007-80
ISSUED FOR THE MT. GUNNISON N0. 1 UNDERGROUND MINE
REDISTURBANCE OF LAYDOWN AREA
INTRODUCTION
In October, 1981 the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division
(CMLRD) approved a revision to Permit C-007-80 to increase the
existing 5-year permit area by ten (10) acres. The area, located
in the S/2 SW/4 of Section 10, T135, R90W, is shown in Attachment
A to this revision. Approximately 5.5 acres of that area was
permitted as a temporary laydown area during construction of the
Mt. Gunnison No. 1 Underground Mine. That revision is incorpo-
rated in this revision by reference. Following completion of the
major facilities at the mine and as described in a January 10,
1983 letter to the CMLRD, the area was no longer needed and was
subsequently reclaimed in the fall of 1983. The proposed
gravelled parking lot described in the January letter was never
constructed.
Following reclamation of the laydown area, West Elk Coal
Company's (WECC) lease with U.S. Steel, owner of the property,
was terminated. WECC is presently working with U.S. Steel to re-
acquire the property. A letter confirming WECC's right of entry
will be submitted to the CMLRD prior to redisturbing the area.
With the planned construction of a second coal storage silo, WECC
oroooses to redisturb the same 5.5 acres to use as a laydown area
for constructior. equipment and supplies as well as for a portable
batch cement plant. Because WECC anticipates future construction
work at the mine, the area will remain disturbed throughout the
life of the mine. The portable batch plant will be removed
,• following completion of the silo.
