• MINING AND RECLAMATION PLAN October, 1979
MT. GUNNISON NO. 1 MINE Revised September 24, 1981
Revised October 7, 1981
east from point B. Refer to attached map. If the topsoil removal area should
increase in size the berm would also increase in size to a height not to exceed 9
feet. The ditches will also be extended as needed to minimize the area disturbed.
Reclamation is discussed in Section 4.5.7.
3.2 Mine Facilities
3.2.1 Topsoil Handling
Prior to construction of the proposed surface facilities at the Mt. Gunnison No. 1
Mine, only those areas to be disturbed during construction will be cleared of
vegetation. Topsoil from these areas will be removed with earth moving equipmens
and placed in a controlled manner in designated topsoil storage areas.
• Prior to the commencement of cut and fill operations, vegetation will be removed
with appropriate equipment. Topsoil will be removed and stockpiled for later
reclamation use.
In areas of high vertical relief, removal of topsoil may not be feasible, but every
effort will be made to salvage all topsoil wherever possible.
When stockpiled topsoil is not to be replaced on an area immediately, an approved
rapid gro.ving vegetative cover or other approved measures will be established to
protect *.he stockpile from wind and water erosion. Controlled placement of
topsoil in a stockpile will enhance the protection of soil integrity and hydrologic
stability.
The surface will be cleared of topsoil onl}• as necessary for construction and site
cevetopment. As required, topsoil removed will be transported to a designated
. i:~_n.11? area iJr later re-::Se In re ~'ege :dtl0n aCtiVlaeS O^-Sae GUring
reclamat:on. .qll surface runoff upstream of the topsoil pile will be controlled as
part of the surface facilities drainage control. Tha: runoff in close proximity to
the topsoil stockpile also will be controlled in the same manner.
3-21
