T880161
' buried channel or interchannel area is exposed. The quarry operation will have little
effect upon the ground water. The only anticipated change is a slight lowering of the
' local ground water table. The localized lowering of the water table will not affect any
ground water users in this area. This small drawdown should be the only impact on the
hydrologic system from the quarry operation and would only impact the Hogan property.
1
Final reclamation of the mine will include a permanent pond at the northern end. The
pond will be recharged by surface runoff, precipitation, and, to a lesser extent,
groundw;tter seepage. Evaporation from the pond will involve the loss of about 18
' inches peer year. Since 1975, when Ideal Basic ceased operations, the existing pond has
stabilized at about 10 acres of surface area containing about 150 acre feet of water. It
' is anticipated that the pond size on the final reclaimed mine floor will be controlled by
evaporation. The broader, flatter surface will allow more annual evaporative losses.
The pond should stabilize and remain as shown on Exhibit F.
' The water requirements for the project are a continuous SO gpm which is equivalent to
about 80 acre feet per year. The water supply plan is summarized as follows:
' 1. [n the initial years of operation the entire physical water supply for the plant
•will be diverted from the Hogan Well No. 2 pond/pump system.
' 2. :Diversions will be made under the Hogan Well No. 2 water right when this
right is in priority or otherwise not subject to an administrative call by the
:hate Engineer's Office because sometimes such calls may be futile; i. e. when
the stream is dry downstream of the plant. The futile call claim will be
subject to the Rules and Regulations of the State Engineer Governing the Use,
Control, and Protection of Surface and Groundwater Rights Located in the
' South Platte River and It's Tributaries, approved March 15, 1974.
3. ~>, plan of operation, subject to the approval of the State Engineer pursuant to
' administrative regulations, will be implemented to provide a water supply when
a.n administrative call is in effect on the Hogan Well No. 2 water right. The
plan will be as follows:
' A. Water will be supplied to the pond/sump system via a pipeline from the
South Boulder Diversion Canal for direct diversion during periods when
there is a "call" on Hogan Well No. 2.
' E.. Water diverted during periods when the Hogan Well No. 2 is subject to an
administrative call and when water is not available from the South
' -27-
t
