• <br />Contn"bLton CMLRB 112 Pertnll Application <br />Agile Stone syatem~, Inc. <br />Your section 1.1. states that berms and ditches will be used to protect Tallahassee <br />Creek from uncontrolled runoff from mining operations. Will the berms and <br />ditches divert water down gradient to an outlet location? If so what will they <br />outlet to? Provide plans and specifications for these berms and ditches and show <br />their location on a Mining Plan Map of sufficient scale to delineate them. <br />This question was answered in the previous answer. There will be no outlets <br />built from the gravel pits due to gravel's tested percolation rates and known <br />storm event data. The sediment ponds at the sandstone and granite quarries <br />will have outlets built in for the 25 year events. The exhibit text and <br />engineered drawings demonstrate this. <br />Your section titled "Granite Quarry" states that a combination rail and haul road <br />crossing of Tallahassee Creek will be constructed to the Granite Quarry. Provide <br />plans and specifications for this crossing including the size and number of the <br />culvert or pipes to be installed and plans for installing rip-rap. Provide <br />information showing the watershed area and calculate peak flow of the 100-year <br />storm event. Also provide a discussion of how the installation can be <br />accomplished to minimize impact on brown trout passage and spawning. You <br />should consult with the Division of Wildlife. <br />The crossings have been designed and engineered by Verkaik and Associates <br />Engineers. Their engineered drawings for each crossing are enclosed in <br />Exhibit C. The structures will be based on 2 end concrete piers with steel <br />beams across a 40' gap. Rip rap will be placed on both sides and ends of the <br />approach ways to the crossing. The plans have been shown, discussed and <br />reviewed with the Division of Wildlife. Their response letter is shown in <br />Exhibit H. Installation is discussed in Exhibit D. The 100 year storm event <br />was painstakingly calculated by purchasing over 250 square miles of <br />digitized USGS 7.5 minute maps, inputing them into special engineering <br />software, reviewing soil conservation service data for additional model input <br />and making 10's of computer runs and evaluations. <br />Your plan includes small sediment ponds to control erosion. Please provide plans <br />and specifications for their installation. Be sure to include information on the size <br />of the structures and their capacities. Will these structures be removed upon <br />reclamation? <br />The sediment ponds will not be removed upon reclamation but will be used <br />for long term erosion control. The location for each pond is shown on the <br />Mining Base Map and Final Reclamation Map. Their sizes and capacities <br />are noted in Ezhibit D. <br />
