Contrlbuton CMLRB I12 PernJt Appllcvtion
Agile Stone Syflema, Inc.
be a good plant growth medium and may erode due to lack of vegetative cover.
Please explain how you intend to overcome these problems.
Topsoil taken from the gravel bar will have large cobbles and boulders
removed before placing it in the topsoil stockpile. There will no mixing of
fines from plant operations and topsoil unless the experimental program to
test such admiatures proves successful. If successful, the current plan is to
only use such admiatures in the quarry area to increase wildlife habitat
during final reclamation.
10. Your section 1,7 states that "For future reclamation by the operator, landowner or
another party an appropriate amount of topsoil will be left in a noticeable, shaped,
and seeded stockpile within 50 feet of the mineral stockpiles remaining after final
reclamation." Pease explain this statement. There should be no mineral
stockpiles or topsoil stockpiles left after final reclamation.
See Final Reclamation Map and Exhibit E. There will no mineral stockpiles
or topsoil stockpiles left after final reclamation.
11. Section 2.3 of your post mining reclamation activities states that "Overburden will
be placed to create apost-mining topography that is self-draining and which
blends into adjacent undisturbed lands. It is assumed that you are referring to the
gravel pit azeas. Please provide an estimate of the amount of overburden to be
backfilled into the mined out gravel pits. The Division recommends that if you
have excess overburden materials (not needed to create appropriate grades), that
you consider using that material with other materials and amendments to reclaim
quarry benches.
There is no overburden. Therefore, there is no discussion of the uses of
overburden.
12. Your proposed permanent seed mix does not include a legume; however, your -
section 2.6 states that legume seed will be inoculated with the correct rhizobium
prior to shipping. Please discuss this discrepancy. It would be an improvement to
your seed mix if you were to add an appropriate legume. You might consider
contacting the local Natural Resource Conservation Service office for a
recommendation.
Legumes include alfalfa, purple prairie clover and yellow sweetclover. The
seed miztures in ezhibit E include these legumes.
16
