Evaluation of Potential Well Impacts From
The Proposed Nix Property Sand and Gravel Operation
• Letter from Hydrosphere Resource Consultants dated July 13, 2001, regazding initial
comments on potential impacts of Nix property sand and gravel mine
• Letter from Leaf Engineering dated July 13, 2001, regazding Owens Brothers gravel pit-well
injury analysis
• Exhibit C-3: Mine Plan Map dated September 18, 2001, prepazed by Banks and Gesso, LLC
It should be noted that the letters from Hydrosphere Resowce Consultants and Leaf Engineering
were prepared in response to the potential impacts anticipated from the proposed dry mining of
the Nix property.
3.1 Piezometers
Seven piezometers were installed on the Nix property and adjacent to the wetland on the Sage
Hill Farm, south of the Nix property, on August 14 and 24, 2001. The piezometers were
installed using an auger drill rig and were completed with 2'/.-inch polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
pipe. Most of the piezometers were installed to a depth of approximately 20 feet, with the lowest
five feet constructed of slotted casing. Two wells were drilled deep enough to encounter bedrock
(approximately 50 feet) but were completed to the 20-foot depth. Figwe 2 shows the locations of
the seven piezometers (P-1 through P-7) relative to the Nix property boundary. All seven
piezometers were used for groundwater level monitoring purposes and given MW designations
as part of that data collection process.
3.2 Adjacent Wells
SEO regulations require that owners of wells within 600 feet of proposed aggregate mining
operations be contacted to allow them the opportunity to assess the potential effects on their well.
Banks and Gesso, LLC, conducted a search of the SEO records within one-half mile of the
proposed operation to identify all permitted wells. Table 1 is a listing of these neazby wells as
correlated to locations identified on Sheet 1. .
011-074.000 Wright Water Engineers, Inc. Page 3
November 2001
