~~
MINED LAND RECLAMATION Re West Rifle Pit File ~p81-6 page 2
ceeds adjacent to the mining area, Potts-Loam will be
saved as possible for use in gravel pit reclamation.
Wann Sandy Loam & Fluvent topsoil will be stockpiled
in part around the settling pond and otherwise used
Q~~.`~ in reclamation as gravel extraction advances. In so
~~'~~" far that reseeding is not going to be exactly in ac-
cordance with existing vegetation no particular at-
' tempt is anticipated to separate Fluvent topsoil from
Wann Sandy Loam. A greater attempt will be made to e-
stablish wildlife buffer or transition zones between
the river and the proposed industrial/residential areas
The site presently contains some basic trash disposal.
Several old car bodies exist along the present river
channel. Potentially hazardous trash (bottles, cans,
appliance bodies and wire) will be hauled to county
land fill site. Organic debris, woody vegetation and
some crusher reject or oversized material will be
placed in separate piles along the river band in gen-
eral conformance with your suggestions. Very little
organic debris is expected to be placed in the pond.
If areas for disposal along the river become full ac-
cording to Division of Wildlife, Mined Land Reclama-
tion Board or County input, additional woody vegeta-
tion/organic debris will be hauled to an acceptable
county landfill site.
There are no significant deer crossings on the site.
The native vegetation on this soil according to the
S.C.S. is mainly alkali sacaton, saltgrass, western
wheatgrass, sedges, fourwing saltbush, tall rabbit
brush, scattered greasewood, cottonwood, willow, ta-
marisk and some rushes. There are few large mature
cottonwoods on the property. However, the soil type
is conducive to Fremont cottonwood tree growth and
as practical these trees will replace any major cot-
tonwoods cut on a one to one basis. Coverage on the
site by major native vegetation is 80%.
10. The S.C.S. has recommended the following for revege-
tation of area gravel pits:
i. Slopes not to exceed 3:1
ii. Seedbeds smooth, firm and free of trash. Fertili-
zation to a depth of 2" to 4" with 50 lbs of ni-
trogen and 25 lb of phosphate per acre.
iii. Broadcast in late fall approximately 30 lb seed
per acre with the following make-up
