Uept. o. r~awl~t ;,~s,.., _: <br />I have reviewed your letter of 17 February addressing adequacey <br />of the referenced application. I will clarify questions by re- <br />ference to the original items in your letter as follows: <br />1. The mining and stockpile area will be confined to <br />the area so defined as the 21.4 acres to be permitt- <br />ed. In the event the area North of the abandoned canal <br />is to be used for stockpile purposes, an amendment to <br />this application will be filed with your agency prior <br />to that use. <br />2. Our contact with the U.S. Corps of Engineers resulted <br />in a determination that no permitting with them would <br />be required. Our contact was Mr. Daryl Arnold of the <br />Grand Junction office of the Corps of Engineers. <br />3. The 5:1 slopes are intended for wildlife use only. These <br />slopes are scheduled in the Southwest corner near the <br />river where maximum utilization would be expected. Po- <br />tential dwelling sites front on the Northern perimeter <br />of the pond. Swimming is not a considered use of this <br />pond. <br />4. The transition area shown on either side ( West & East) <br />of the pit are intended as buffer zones (transition area) <br />much in accordance with your suggestion. In addition, <br />the [Jilcox Canal is firmly abandoned and no known po- <br />tential for its future use exists. <br />w; <br />,~•`, <br />5. The berms of the settling ponds will be used for recla- <br />`"~ ~ mation as pertinent. The final pond area will be reseeded <br />and all compacted areas will be ripped prior to seed-bed <br />preparation. <br />6.
