E1.08 - Culverts and Drains <br />i <br />A. General: <br />The CONTRACTOR shall use corrugated metal culvert pipe as speci- <br />fied above and furnished by OWNER, and installed as specified <br />below. <br />B. Materials: <br />As specified above. <br />C. Excavation and Trenching: <br />Excavate to a minimum six inches below bottom of pipe as speci- <br />fied above under section Excavation, and as follows. Protect <br />excavations at all times using bracing and sheeting. Maintain <br />trench banks as nearly vertical as possible. Remove excess <br />earth. Keep excavations dry. Make width of vertically walled <br />~` [renches no larger than eight inches on either side of pipe bar- <br />e rel from bottom to spring line, and no wider than necessary above <br />spring line for bracing and shoring and for proper performance of <br />work. Where wet or unsuitable material for proper support of <br />pipe is encountered, remove such material to depth required. <br />Overdepth excavation must be performed for fu 11 wid[lc of trench <br />and then backfilled with gravel to the proper grade and compacted <br />in accordance with the requirements for bedding as specified <br />below. <br />Where pipes are placed in fill, place fill no less than three <br />fee[ above the pipe as specified above For fill and excavate into <br />compacted fill as specified. <br />In lieu of vertical-sided [renches specified above, the CONTRAC- <br />TOR may, a[ his option, use open cut methods for excavation, sub- <br />° ject Co provisions for protection of banns as specified above for <br />5-11 <br />
