FALLEN h1INE - Filc No. C-012-81
Miner Revision No. 1
Adequacy Response
This response addresses concerns of the Division in the
order that the issues were raised in the letter to CFF,I Steel
Corporation dated April 22, 1982. Therefore, these responses
are numbered 1 through 4.
1. (a.) All topsoil will be removed within the area
to be disturbed. CFfiI estimates that approximatel}~
3/4 of an acre will be disturbed during construction
of the shaft. The removal of 12 inches of topsoil
would produce an estimated yardage of 1200 yards3.
The figure given in Table 14 of the final permit
application is higher because at the time of submission
of the application it was not known if the shaft was to
be raise bored or excavated conventionally. Shaft
sinking by conventional methods would have required a
larger disturbance area which is reflected in the
Table 14 figure.
(b.) The approximate location of the topsoil stockpile
is shown on drawing ~1. This location may be changed i•
slightly but it will be within the shielded area of the \\
undisturbed-water diversion ditch and will be protected
from wind and water erosion.
(c.) CFF,I proposes to use the grasses mixture shown
on Table 16 (2.05-31) of the final permit application
as the temporary seed mix on the topsoil stockpile. As
the seed will probably be applied by broadcast methods,
the application rate will be doubled. CFfiI does not
plan to plant forbes or shrubs on the topsoil stockpile.
Straw mulch will be spread over the stockpile at the
rate of 3000 lbs. per acre. As this topsoil stockpile
will be fairly small, the mulch will probably be applied
by hand.
~ ~~ '~
~~ ~
~~~
