Fertilizer and other soil amendments will not be used in conjunction with the reclamation
plan for this mine site.
Vegetation present on the site shall be stripped with the topsoil materials and regraded
with the topsoil in the reclaimed condition.
Reveygtstlon
The planned revegetation for the shoreline areas is expected to establish a diverse,
effective and long-lasting vegetative cover capable of self regeneration without continued
dependence on irrigation, soil amendments, or fertilizer. The revegetation will be at least
equal in extent in cover to the natural vegetation of the surrounding area along the
Arkansas River. The species presented below under reclamation details are a vegetation
mix that has been accepted for similar reclamation on sites near this operation.
The operator will use some forest planting in conjunction with this reclamation plan. The
woody vegetation immediately adjacent to the Arkansas River is the predominant woody
• vegetation associated with this site and will remain. The area targeted for mining and
lake construction will be partially forested.
The final reclamation will be irrigated cropland, lakes, wetlands, grassland, and wooded
areas. The amount of land left surrounding the lake system will be sufficient to support
wildlife. In any case, the slopes utilized at the site would present no obstacle to animals
and waterfowl using the reclaimed land.
The grass revegetation mix has been used with success very near this site on prior
reclamation for mining operations. The mix is well suited for the area's environmental
factors including precipitation, temperature, wind, soil, and slope.
Site preparation for establishment of the vegetative cover will be accomplished by certain
forms of mechanical soil conditioning. These include scarifying of compacted areas such
as haul routes, plant site areas, and stockpile areas. This should also include mulching
along the lake system shoreline as reclamation occurs.
Weed control will be employed for all prohibited noxious weed species, and whenever
invasion of a reclaimed area by other species seriously threatens continued development
of the revegetation cover. Weed control shall also be used when weeds on-site threaten
further spread of serious weed pests to nearby areas.
E-4
